eco-fatigue and feeling pointless about steel straw sustainability
I'm not sustainable 'enough' and I'm tired
PSA: This is a deeply honest, personal, not-so-politically correct and not-so-optimistic share about how I’m feeling as I go through a season of feeling uninspired, pointless and desolate about being sustainable in this world.
Yes, just the kind of thing a sustainable fashion person who built a blog, brand and public figure presence that’s all about sustainable fashion consciousness is not supposed to say out loud. But here we are. If you're not in the mood for reading something that's not hopeful, fluffy or positive, or you've already read enough of the news for a day, I'd say skip this letter for now. But if you relate with being so tired of trying to be eco-conscious while witnessing evidence, so often, of how little your individual efforts matter, and how large the scale of ignorants doing damage to Earth are, you’re in the right place to feel a little less alone. I’m with you, I’m tired too. I don’t have the solution, but I find comfort in just being brave enough to take up space to share how this feels for me.
Lately, I've been increasingly feeling like my efforts to be a sustainable person are like throwing a bucket of water at a 200 acre forest fire. This fire, strangely but unsurprisingly, has more plastic than wood in it.
